At the helm of some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most forward-thinking fusion projects, Sola Rosa has spent more than two decades carving out a sound that moves fluidly between soul, funk, hip hop and modern dance music.
In 2026, producer, songwriter and musician Andrew Spraggon returns with his eighth studio album,In The Mids.
Moving away from the live band focus of recent releases,In The Mids brings Sola Rosa full circle — back to the foundations of the project as a studio-led exploration shaped by modern dance music and heavy grooves. Drawing influence from contemporary club culture alongside soul, funk and global rhythms, the album prioritises mood, movement and restraint over overt gestures.
The album is introduced with new single ‘Losing Time’, a collaboration with Aotearoa artist Muroki. A warm, summer-tinged head-nodder driven by an infectious bassline, 70s horns, and subtle funk undercurrent, the track captures a sense of restlessness and escape, balancing groove with emotional weight.
“I first heard Muroki when I took my daughters to see BENEE live — he was the support act and instantly stood out,” says Spraggon. “Not long after, I heard a song on the radio and thought, that’s a great tune… and it was him. I reached out to see if he’d be keen on a collaboration, and it turned out he was already a fan of a track from my last album.” SOLA ROSA
