Central Coast indie darling Joel Leggett is back with his second release for the year, in the form of the shimmering new single ‘Light In The Dark.’

A bright, bouncy track brimming with catchy melodies and stunning percussive textures, ‘Light In The Dark’ is – ironically – a track which Joel wrote with the intention “to leave [it] open for interpretation,” rather than to shine that light himself.

On the desire to keep its meaning open, while letting just a liiitle light through the crack in the door for audiences to see his own thoughts on the matter, Joel expressed:

“I didn’t want to box it into one story or feeling, because I think everyone will find something different in it. For me, it’s about that slow fading of mutual respect, whether that’s between people, within yourself, or even with the world around you. It’s about noticing the light shift, the weight change, and finding your own way through it. I’m proud of this one and I’m looking forward to seeing what it means to you.”  JOEL LEGGETT

Recorded close to home with long-time collaborator Jack Nigro (The Amity Affliction, DMA’s, Skegss, Middle Kids, Pacific Avenue, The Terrys) at his base, Sonora Studios, Joel found that the new single came to him in a cyclone wind of creative energy, as his music often does.

Alongside the single comes a sweet and picturesque music video, featuring Joel dabbling in shadowplay as well as a karaoke-style performance to camera. On the clip for ‘Light In The Dark’, Joel expanded:

“The idea for the ‘Light In The Dark’ music video started when I was drinking my coffee one morning at home, and noticed the sunlight coming in against the wall. Naturally I started making shadow puppets which then sparked the idea to film a music video using my shadows against the wall to match with the song ‘Light In The Dark’.

It was a super fun music video to make and I’m stoked with how cool it looks. We shot it in a couple of hours with search media. The guys are really good at what they do so it made the whole process so easy and efficient”  JOEL LEGGETT

Having announced his forthcoming fourth studio albumWater Sports, just earlier this year, Joel is set for a very exciting run of releases for the remainder of 2025.

A rising star of the indie rock, pop, and folk scenes in NSW and beyond, Joel’s has made an impressive name for himself, with previous album Changing Currents having amassed over 12.8 million streams, with singles such as ‘Part of Me’ sitting at over 5.9 million streams on Spotify alone.

Having played supporting slots in the past for the likes of San Cisco, The Dreggs, The Rions, Pacific Avenue, You Am I, The Terrys and many more, Joel will be bringing his enchanting live show to Woolgoolga, Byron Bay and Towradgi this June and August, to welcome the new single.
