Sydney sibling duo THE FAVOURITE are continuing their steady rise within the Australian music scene, returning in 2026 with their powerful new single, “Sitting Alone.” Following the success of their 2025 debut, “When Did You Ever Want It?”, the duo are proving they are far more than a one-release breakthrough.
Honest Songwriting Meets Anthemic Energy
Blending a sound that feels both fresh and familiar, THE FAVOURITE tap into a space occupied by artists like Sam Fender and Gang Of Youths:where raw emotion meets expansive, melodic production.
With “Sitting Alone,” the duo lean further into their strengths: heartfelt lyricism, soaring arrangements, and an ability to translate deeply personal experiences into something universally relatable.
Capturing a Moment of Emotional Realisation
At its core, “Sitting Alone” explores the quiet devastation of misreading a situation—those moments where expectation and reality collide.
“We wrote ‘Sitting Alone’ about that quiet gut punch moment you realise you’ve read a situation wrong,” the duo explain.
Inspired by a specific experience, the track paints a vivid picture of emotional vulnerability:
“It’s the feeling of going to a party for someone, then seeing they’re with someone else… and realising you’ve built something up in your mind that maybe was never really there.”
Themes of jealousy, self-doubt, and loss of composure run through the track, yet it’s this honesty that gives the song its emotional weight.
Dancing Through the Heartbreak
Despite its introspective core, “Sitting Alone” is anything but subdued. The track’s energetic instrumentation contrasts with its lyrical depth;creating a dynamic listening experience that invites both movement and reflection.
“We want people to be able to dance while they’re crying,” they share.
It’s this duality – uplifting sound paired with emotional vulnerability – that sets THE FAVOURITE apart, positioning them as a compelling new voice within the Australian indie landscape.
Released alongside the single, is a brand new set of visuals from The Favourite. The music video, directed by Madison Novak around a number of areas in South-West Sydney, follows the narrative of the track and takes place at a house party.
As they explain, “It’s about that moment when you show up hoping to see someone, only to realise they’re there with someone else. Everyone around you is having a good time, but you’re stuck in your own head replaying everything. We wanted the video to capture that feeling of being surrounded by people but still feeling kind of alone. It matches the song well, it’s upbeat and energetic on the surface, but underneath it’s about jealousy, self-doubt, and the realisation that you might have built something up in your mind that wasn’t really there.”
Ones to Watch in 2026
With “Sitting Alone,” THE FAVOURITE are not only building on the promise of their debut, but actively shaping their identity as artists unafraid to explore the complexities of human emotion.
As industry attention continues to grow – spanning the wider Australian music PR network too – the duo are firmly establishing themselves as ones to watch in 2026.
Backed by a sound that resonates and storytelling that cuts deep, THE FAVOURITE are carving out a space that feels both personal and widely impactful, exactly the kind of artistry that thrives within today’s evolving Australian music publicity landscape; one we are so excited to promote!
