2025 has already proven to be one of Evie Irie’s busiest to date – the release of dynamic singles in ‘Alter Ego’ and ‘Mercedes Medicated’ has further established Evie as one of Australia’s best young songwriters, while her spin with triple j’s Like A Version series in May continued to add fuel to the fire, spurring Evie forward.
With ‘I’m Not Sorry’, Evie Irie’s return is bold, presenting as one of her most ambitious releases to date. The song offers new perspectives from Evie, delivered with humour and wicked emotional intelligence in good measure.
Co-written with and produced by Xavier Dunn, ‘I’m Not Sorry’ is a strong stride forth from Evie – an empowering moment that serves to connect with her listeners in a big way.
“‘I’m Not Sorry’ is bold both lyrically and sonically. It doesn’t dance around the point, and that’s intentional. It mirrors the way certain men move through the world… loud, direct, and often so completely unaware.
So I thought, why not give that same energy right back but make it funny, hot, and empowering 🙂 Sonically it lives in the alt-pop world, it’s playful, cathartic, and is a perfect representation of the attitude I respond to out of pocket men with in real life too.” EVIE IRIE
Inspired by a story relayed to Evie by her best friend, ‘I’m Not Story’ is unapologetic and unfiltered – traits that have found themselves at the core of Evie’s songwriting.
It is one of many drawcards to Evie’s music; with a catalogue of released and unreleased songs that exceed 300 to date, Evie’s personal and engaging style of storytelling has led her to be labelled one of the “best songwriters of her generation” for good reason.
With ‘I’m Not Sorry’, she blends stylistic influence with a maturity in narrative. As she describes the process; “It was oddly familiar to my stories I have filed away in my brain. Xavier Dunn and I figured it was time to pull them out and start writing. He was the greatest person to have collaborated with on this because he encouraged the most irreverent, descriptive unapologetic lyrics possible.
We really went in on all the embarrassing and weird interactions with entitled men who either read the room incredibly wrong… or really thought they did something with their subpar, belittling comments. Writing this was equally hilarious and cathartic.”
A powerful talent, Evie’s catalogue of music has accumulated over 30 million streams across Spotify and Apple Music, while her songs have been featured in episodes of TV shows including The Bold Type, The Hills, Love Life, The Rookie, The Block and more.
Recently, she collaborated with Netflix and Tim Minchin on ‘Hello World’, the title track for the animated film Out To The Outback – a project that brought Evie to a whole new demographic of fans and followers.
As a live performer, Evie has developed into a beloved and in-demand name on the road. In 2019, she made her international debut at sold out showcase shows in New York and Los Angeles, all the while growing in profile at home, supporting the likes of Bastille, Amy Shark and Sigrid in Australia.
