The music CYCAD have been producing in recent years has been captivating audiences within the local Melbourne music community – an exciting fusion of psych-rock, indie and soulful vibes that speaks to a wide array of influences.
In 2026, the four-piece returns in a big way, set to release their much-anticipated debut album SCOUCH. From it, CYCAD are excited to reveal a brand new track titled ‘TASTELESS’.
Recorded in Brunswick with producer Ben Irawan (UGLIEBOY, Pretty Moi), the band created their latest single during the sessions they spent together – rather than bringing a fully formed idea to the studio.
As a result, ‘TASTELESS’ is a striking clash of chemistry and vibrancy, bolstered by CYCAD’s own clear love for instrumentation and pushing themselves further into new creative territory.
As they describe, “Tasteless was one of the few songs that we didn’t have fully written before going into the studio, it was just the bones of a song. As we were in the process of tracking it we were playing around with new ideas and production techniques, and with the help of our producer Ben, decided to create a bridge that drastically lowered the tempo and changed time signature, as a personal challenge to ourselves. It gave the song some oomph coming back into the uptempo outro, and took this ‘Tasteless’ from being an unfinished idea to the lead single.” CYCAD
CYCAD have been consistently building momentum behind their music since 2021. The band, made up of brothers Cam Martin (vocals, guitar), Lachie Martin (guitar) and friends Eoghan Earls (bass) and Sam Mosen (drums), thrive in the live realm; high energy live shows that match the approach they bring to the studio each time they step foot in one.
With ‘TASTELESS’ being its first indication, the SCOUCH project is set to further expand on this energy while highlighting CYCAD’s next chapter of songwriting. To celebrate its release, CYCAD will be performing a special launch show at The Retreat Hotel this May.
