Rising indie rockers Vinted Vineer have today unveiled their latest single, ‘zzz’, featuring rapper Sidney Phillips.

A dreamy track which seamlessly blends elements of rock, shoegaze, alt-pop and hip-hop, ‘zzz’ is a melting pot of creative energy, and a stunning crossover between these two ascending indie names.

Speaking to the energy of the track, Vinted Vineer said:

“This track is about drifting. Being caught in that dreamlike, half asleep state where time blurs and reflection takes over. There’s a sense of love lost, of watching life pass from the sidelines. It’s slower and more groove driven than our earlier stuff, but there’s still that pulse of intensity running through it. The lofi quality gives it a nostalgic feel, and there’s definitely a melancholy thread, but also a kind of quiet resolve in the lyrics.” VINTED VINEER

Having begun as a high school passion project, eventually bringing in new members before locking down their full and current line-up consisting of Dominic Ritchie, Charlie Normoyle, Koen Yoshida-Martin, and Caleb Sharie, Vinted Vineer contains multitudes.

Over the last couple of years, they have built a steady following, and have supported live shows for the likes of Velvet Trip, Le Shive, Nice Biscuit, Sunbeam Sound Machine and more. Already beloved for their bright energy and ability to incorporate many a style and influence into their work, the band released  their debut album Tobi Yume in 2024– a record which was described as “a neon-plated love letter to the 2010s hip-hop scene, sealed with signature guitar-rock.”

Perpetuating their affinity for musical experimentation now with their latest release, Vinted Vineer are ready to step it up a notch as they leap into a fresh and exciting new creative space;

“We’re always chasing a sound that feels distinctly ours, and with this track we feel like we’ve finally hit on something that captures that. It marks the beginning of a new era for the band.”  VINTED VINEER

Working with close friend and sound engineer Ruben McIntyre on the production of ‘zzz’, the Brisbane band chipped away at the track for months before it took its final form.

Inherently experimental in the way that they approach writing their music, the group worked and reworked every aspect of the song, playing around with various genres and moods and ending up with “at least three other versions floating around with totally different melodies and vocal ideas”.

Finally finding its place in a dreamlike soundscape of indie pop, rock & shoegaze goodness, the single was rounded off with the addition of a verse from Sidney Phillips, who brings her own melancholic yet bewitching energy to the table. Expanding on the recording process, the band said:

“The whole thing started with an acoustic riff in a weird dropped down tuning. Threw up a mic, tracked it, and that first recording ended up staying in the final version. From there, it was slowly built out. We don’t like to rush songs, so we kept circling back over weeks and months, layering and stripping away until everything felt right… T

he whole track is pretty experimental too, blending different genres and leaning into riskier production choices. It was produced by Ruben McIntyre, a longtime friend who we’ve been making music with since we were kids. One of the highlights was having the whole band in the room, just jamming on different instruments while Ruben captured little moments and pieced them together into what you now hear on the record.”  VINTED VINEER
