Recent years have seen Adelaide’s MOLLY ROCKET emerge as one of the city’s most exciting indie groups – their sound has captured the attention of industry and audiences alike, right around the country, for its instantly engaging nature and open songwriting.

In 2025, the band is kicking things up another notch with the release of new track, ‘BREATHING LEAD’. Rhythmic and passionate, Molly Rocket’s latest alternative rock masterpiece brings their own personal brand of introspective storytelling to life.

Recording ‘Breathing Lead’ at Melbourne’s Wrangler Studios earlier this year with Tim Maxwell and Dean Tellefson, Molly Rocket felt like they were stepping into new sonic territory; the excitement can be heard threaded through each melody and riff.

“The song’s lyrics read as vignettes, each pertaining to different things I was thinking and experiencing while writing the song, including a recent OCD diagnosis and worries about the poor caretaking of our environment. The song’s title and chorus were inspired by the community of Port Pirie, and how the townspeople – particularly the children – have high levels of lead in their blood due to the towering lead smelter that sits on the city’s port. This led me to focus the chorus on breathing lead-polluted air and the worries that come with that.

“Most of the instrumental parts were tracked live; amps and pedals roaring in the same room across a single day, a huge shift from our usual layer-by-layer approach. The next day, we jumped into vocals and added a few overdubs, tying it all together. The result feels raw, immediate and closer to the energy of us playing as a band than anything we’ve recorded before.” MOLLY ROCKET

Since their impactful debut in 2023, Molly Rocket have been on a fast trajectory for success and notoriety. They have earned nominations at the 2023 South Australian Music Awards (‘Best Rock Artist’, ‘Best Song’, ‘Best Release’, ‘Best New Artist’, ‘Best Group’), while cutting their teeth on stages with artists including Teenage JoansPress ClubKing StingrayOcean Grove and more.

Across 2023 and 2024, the band has won industry support via triple j and Triple J Unearthed, the stations both integral in supporting their music on a national platform. They have also enjoyed strong success on DSPs, with Apple Music supporting their single ‘She’s Cruel’ across playlists including New Music DailyBreaking RockThe New RockNegative Space and Good Times, to name a few.
