After 15 years, iconic singer-songwriter Bic Runga is back with her sixth studio album, Red Sunset, her first collection of original songs since 2011’s Belle. Recorded in Paris during the winter of 2025 and co-produced with Kody Nielson, the album captures a reflective, intimate chapter in the career of one of Aotearoa’s most enduring voices.
“After such a long time between albums, I didn’t want to rush this one,” Bic says. “These songs came together slowly, in a very particular place and time, and that space really shaped how the record sounds and feels.”
From Christchurch to Global Acclaim
Bic first emerged in the late 1990s with her multi-platinum debut Drive, which helped define a generation of New Zealand pop songwriting. Albums like Beautiful Collision, Birds, and Belle cemented her reputation for emotional clarity, precision, and restraint.
Now, with Red Sunset, she offers a continuation rather than a reinvention. The title track explores longing and emotional distance, while singles like ‘It’s Like Summertime’ and ‘Paris in the Rain’ showcase her ability to translate moments and places — in this case, Paris — into evocative music. “Being away from home sharpens your perspective,” Bic explains.
Bringing Red Sunset to Australian Stages
This April, Bic brings Red Sunset to Australia, performing both new material and beloved classics like ‘Drive’, ‘Sway’, and ‘Beautiful Collision’. Tour dates include Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, and Fremantle, giving Australian audiences a chance to experience her music live in an intimate setting.
